In a recent article, I spoke about the importance of planning and executing a marketing plan for 2021. This is one key to marketing success for your gym or fitness studio.
I think it’s pretty obvious and you probably didn’t need me to remind you of this.
But let’s be real for a minute.
These things are easier said than done because inevitably we’re going to meet some roadblocks. Some things that will just throw us off.
Because we know that life gets in the way. And things will get tough and our mindsets will be tested.
So if we know that certain events are going to crop up, that invariably throw us off course, then what’s even the point?
We’re doomed from the get-go, right?
WRONG
Enter the solution – CONSISTENCY
You know this already – you’re a fitness professional after all.
Does a client reach their goals after 2 weeks? Even if they’ve planned correctly and executed perfectly for those 2 weeks?
Of course not.
Consistency is key to marketing success.
Consistency is sticking to what is planned despite any internal or external distractions.
Let me tell you the story of Amundsen and Scott (yes another story – because I love a great story and also because I think it helps to underline the point of this article)
Both led separate teams on an expedition race to the South Pole in 1911.
The journey there and back was roughly 1,400 miles which is equivalent to a round trip from London to Barcelona.
The two teams, loaded up with all their supplies and gear, set off to race by foot and see who would be the first to reach the South Pole.
Both teams knew that this trip was dangerous and that it would take some time to complete.
They also knew that they would be crossing harsh conditions that would test their mind, bodies and spirit.
While both teams would be travelling the same distance as each other through extremely harsh weather conditions, each team took an entirely different approach to the journey.
Scott’s team pushed as far and as hard as they could while the weather was reasonable and then when the weather was harsh and difficult to get through, they’d rest up and conserve their energy.
This left them pushing for a few days at a time and stopping for days at a time.
Amundsen’s team had a more consistent plan. They would walk 20 miles every day in all weather conditions.
20 miles on the calm and beautiful days even when they could have walked much further.
And on the nasty, wind howling days they would still walk 20 miles.
This consistent action and daily, steady pace helped keep the team motivated and built a strong repetitive system that would pay off in the end.
Amundsen and his team reached the South Pole some 5 weeks before Scott.
This story became known as the 20 Mile March and it highlights the importance of consistency.

Whenever you're looking to accomplish a goal or want to reach a goal that is big, I believe using the 20 Mile March method is a great tactic to employ and ultimately the key to marketing success for your gym or studio.
By taking consistent daily action, you'll be able to hit your target with ease rather than getting burnt out or even worse, never reaching your goal at all.
Most of us believe that grinding 24-7 is the way to fulfill their dreams, but in reality, it just wears people down and does no good for anyone on the adventure. The steady consistent action is what is going to help propel you to the next level.
Best Self has created a great video on this topic and you can view that here -
Take consistent daily action regardless of internal or external circumstances.
Applying this routine will lead to huge progress, compounded over time. Do one social media post a day? Or one blog post? Write one email to your list? Craft one paid ad?
You know this works because this is what you advise your clients to do, right?
You know reaching fitness goals is all about consistency.
Consistent healthy nutrition, consistent working out, consistent sleeping habits etc.
The same goes for your marketing. The principle is universal.
You don’t have to be extreme.
Just be consistent. That's the key to marketing success.
Until next time 🙂
