As colder weather and darker nights draw in, it’s the perfect time for members to renew their gym routine.

October - Healthy Habit Challenge

Encourage this by running a 30 day challenge that’s designed to develop healthy habits. Give them daily tasks via email, social media, and in-club instructions, so they get back into the swing of exercising consistently.

This will give your retention a boost and help keep people loyal throughout the upcoming holiday period.

October Story Idea Prompts

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the media always covers Breast Cancer Awareness in a big way so are you able to raise funds and then write a press release about the event you ran? Do you know of any inspiring breast cancer survivor stories?
  • Halloween is big in October, but again, you’ll need an interesting angle. How about a rundown of Halloween treats listed from least healthy to most healthy? Or follow Andrew’s lead and run a Halloween-Themed Group Training class for free and invite the Community to attend in return for a small donation. Want a done-for-you marketing campaign? • Macmillan Cancer Support here in the UK are running their GoSober for October campaign. They have a fundraising page full of ideas – https://www.gosober.org.uk/fundraising-ideas
National Nutrition Week

  • It’s National Nutrition Week in Australia on 14-20th October . The theme for National Nutrition Week 2018 is Try for 5, encouraging Australians to increase their vegetable consumption to the recommended five serves per day.
  • World Arthritis Day takes place on 12th October and the 'Don't Delay, Connect Today' campaign, aims to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of RMDs (Rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases) – can you write an article on the power of nutrition and/or exercise?
World Mental Health Day

  • Another worthy topic is World Mental Health Day that takes place on 10th October – what can you do to highlight this event?
